Ethernet cable connections are typically reserved for high-speed Internet connections or system networks, but some printers and computers also use them. Connecting a printer to a computer this way is desirable if you are using a Wi-Fi for Internet and have used up the rest of the USB ports on the computer.
Instructions
Insert the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on the printer. Push the cable in completely to secure the connection.
Connect the other end of the cable into the Internet port on the computer. The system detects the hardware and states it has detected new equipment.
Insert the driver installation CD for the printer into the disc drive of the computer. A driver installation wizard appears on the screen.
Accept the end-user agreement. Choose "Next" two more times and then click "Install." The driver for the printer installs onto the computer.
